Controlled by Hatred/Feel Like Shit...Déjà Vu is a compilation album by the American thrash metal/crossover thrash band Suicidal Tendencies, which was released on October 17, 1989 by Epic Records.

Although this album is technically either a compilation or a stop-gap double-EP, it is often disputed as to whether Controlled by Hatred/Feel Like Shit...Déjà Vu is the band's fourth full-length studio album. It is compiled of unreleased material, including covers of No Mercy, three never-before tracks ("Just Another Love Song", "Feel Like Shit... Déjà Vu" and "It's Not Easy", which is actually a cover of a song by Los Cycos) and two different versions of "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow" (from the band's 1988 album with the same title): the "video edited" version and the "heavy emotion" version.

This album includes Robert Trujillo's first work with Suicidal Tendencies, and the first of three Suicidal Tendencies albums to go gold.

Album information

Rather than being a full-length album, the band presented the single record as two EPs - the first four tracks are Controlled by Hatred and the rest are Feel Like Shit... Déjà Vu. It features 6 new recordings - 4 of which were covers of No Mercy songs, an outtake from the previous album's sessions, a shortened version of "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow" (as it is heard in the song's video) and the previously-unreleased softer "Heavy Emotion" version of that song.

Much confusion has sprung up about Controlled by Hatred/Feel Like Shit...Déjà Vu. According to the band, it is either a compilation album, an EP or what they describe "the longest EP".[2] Due to the release containing 9 tracks and running almost 40 minutes long, many consider it their fourth full-length album. Billboard considered it an album release by listing it on their album chart, it reached #150. The music press had also referred to Controlled by Hatred/Feel Like Shit...Déjà Vu as the band's follow-up to How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today, and Lights...Camera...Revolution! as the follow-up to this release. Several sources have also listed it as a full-length album.

Music videos for "Waking the Dead" and "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow (Heavy Emotion Version)" were made to promote this release.
